Beware Animal Rights Groups
You May Not Know the Whole Story
The two major animal rights groups have goals that aren't
in keeping with most people's thinking about animals and pets. I'm
sure most of their celebrity supporters and the public don't know the
true story.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
PETA doesn't really want anyone to have pets. They talk about
treating your pet properly, but their goal is a 'No Birth Nation'. Think
about it, no births means eventually the species becomes extinct. They
think killing feral cats is more 'humane' then trapping,
spaying/neutering, releasing and feeding and monitoring the cat colony.
If you want a Golden Retriever puppy or Bengal kitten, too bad. They
will put all the breeders out of business if they get their way. PETA
has over stated and perhaps forged celebrity endorsements.
STORY
In response to a court order, PETA provide statistics on its take in and
kill numbers.
PETA kills over 90% of the cats and dogs it takes in. With a
name like Ethical Treatment of Animals, one would think they would work
on finding homes for the animals they take in. Otherwise, why take them?
I'm sure the people who surrendered their animals to PETA thought their
cat or dog would find a new home, not a death sentence.
Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)
In Louisiana, the HSUS raised over $20 million to help the animals
impacted by Hurricane Katrina and only spent $4 million before packing
up, money piling up in bank accounts, and going home.
In Virginia, the HSUS raised money allegedly for the dog victims of
dogfighter Michael Vick (which they did not have custody of) and then
told the court overseeing the case to go ahead and kill the dogs. (The
court refused, they are now with rescue groups and in loving new homes.)
